ICTs Freedom of Information and Privacy Rights in Nigeria: A Legal Analysis

The impact of respect for human rights on economic, political and social development of nation states is no longer in contention, at least not for developed nation states where such recognition has led to improvement in the quality of life and governance. One of the grey areas of modern jurisprudence is in the impact of and place of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) in protecting and institutionalizing human rights, particularly freedom of information and privacy rights as key human rights. The thesis of this paper is that sufficient appreciation and appropriation of these background trajectories will have a profound transformational effect on the development process particularly in Nigeria. With primary professional insights and comprehensive secondary data, the paper engages the interface of ICTs, Freedom of Information and
Privacy Rights in Nigeria and concludes with pointers to some areas of caution and success determinants.
