Protracted delays and other problems associated with the administration of justice in Nigeria have compounded the people’s loss of faith in due process and resort to “jungle justice.” Thus, beyond the court delays are a number of factors that drive citizens to take the law into their own hands in order to redress the perceived wrongs committed against them. This article identifies and examines a number of such factors, which are rooted in the attitude of the Nigerian Police, aspects of Nigerian procedural law, and the disobedience of court orders by the Executive. A number of possible solutions to the problems are examined.
